In Kumamoto City, citizens who have been affected by extraordinary natural phenomena such as storms, heavy rainfall, or earthquakes, or due to fire (residing in the city and registered in the Basic Resident Register), are eligible to receive relief payments as described below.
Eligibility Requirements and Payment Amounts
〇 Disaster Condolence Payment
In the event of death: ¥100,000 per deceased person
〇 Disaster Relief Payment
•In the case of a house being completely burned down, completely destroyed, or washed away: ¥50,000 per household
•In the case of a house being half-destroyed or partially burned: ¥30,000 per household
※ “Half-destroyed” includes houses that are partially, moderately, or severely damaged
•In the case of a house experiencing above-floor flooding (partial damage): ¥10,000 per household
In the case of a severe injury requiring approximately one month or more of medical care: ¥30,000 per person
※ Large-Scale Disaster: A disaster meeting any of the following conditions:
•A disaster in which five or more households lose their homes within a single municipality;
•A disaster in which at least one municipality within a prefecture is covered by the Disaster Relief Act;
•A disaster in which two or more prefectures include municipalities covered by the Disaster Relief Act;
•A disaster in which three or more municipalities within a prefecture experience the loss of five or more households; etc.
※ Submission of a Disaster Victim Certificate and, where applicable, a medical certificate from a doctor is required for claims.
